#1 Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope

Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)
Dir: George Lucas

In a Galaxy far far away…

And so it begins!

People always exclaim when I say I’ve never seen the original Star Wars trilogy fully, in fact, there’s even a TV programme called ‘I’ve Never Seen Star Wars’, it’s considered that much of a natural part of life. I must say, I have tried. When I was younger I attempted to watch them anytime they were on TV, but my father dislikes them hugely and inevitably turned them off. So, I have seen small parts, hundreds of clips, references and parodies, I’ve even seen the newer trilogy, which probably should have killed my interest… Until today!

I decided this would be a good place to start, so, I have just watched the ‘first’ Star Wars film, on my TV, recorded in HD off the TV. I must say, it was mightily enjoyable!

To be critical, I need to point out that this was the 90’s re-edit, with CGI popped in, and in my opinion, totally unnecessary, it destroyed some of the charm, as the newly added bits really stuck out, they felt incongruous with the rest of the film… but now I’m starting to sound like a fan-boy, and the internet is littered with them analysing that in far better and more informed detail than myself!

I’m about to go watch the next two, but as a start, this has been a decent way to begin, a bit of light-hearted fun!

“Never seen Star Wars?”… I’m working on it!
