As I was hoping to go to Comic-Con in San Diego in July, I decided that this year I would try to work my way through my ever-expanding Superhero / Super-powered / Comics film and TV collection.
This genre of film and TV has become increasingly mainstream, no longer the love of just ‘geeks’ or ‘fanboys’ these films especially are now made to appeal to a wide audience who quite likely have never picked up a comic book but just enjoy the films themselves. The massive box office successes of the Marvel cinematic universe and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy are clear proof of this. In the past couple of years, this year especially, comic heroes have made the move from the big screen to the small screen in force.
Every Saturday I will release a review of one of these films or occasionally one of these shows, featuring a superhero, super-powers, adapted from comics or graphic novels or linked to comics culture. Most of the films and shows that I’m going to review I have never seen before, many that I have long wanted to but just haven’t gotten around to watching, some will be things I have seen maybe just once before and am now revisiting for a fresh look, others I will review on release such as ‘Big Hero 6’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Fantastic 4’. I aim to reassess either what I liked or conversely disliked about the ones I have already seen, and also hopefully find a few surprises in the genre that are lesser known gems, or some terrible but interesting examples of the genre.
This should be fun…
